MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Category four Hurricane Katrina battered the Gulf Coast region almost one year ago. Today local, state and federal agencies are still working together to provide Alabama residents resources to rebuild their lives. As the recovery process continues, here is a look back to see how far Alabama has come.

1 With thousands of displaced residents and evacuees from other states, hurricane Katrina led to the single largest direct housing mission in Alabama history
13 Alabama State Parks and campgrounds were opened to offer shelter to evacuees
31 Disaster Recovery Centers were operational in the state, lending assistance to 40,222 people affected by Hurricane Katrina
271 FEMA inspectors performed 95,514 inspections in the state
1,400 More than 1,400 evacuees and staff were on board the cruise ship Holiday when it was relocated to facilities in Pascagoula, Mississippi October 30
2,688 individuals live in interim housing facilities in Alabama, including travel trailers on commercial and private property
2,895 The Small Business Administration has approved 2,895 low-interest loans for homeowners, business owners and renters for more than $137.8 million in aid
5,694 students from other disaster impacted states enrolled in Alabama public schools during the 2005-06 year
40,222 individuals received assistance at Alabama's 31 Disaster Recovery Centers
112,866 Alabama residents registered with FEMA by calling the toll-free number 800-621-FEMA (3362), the TTY number for the hearing-or-speech impaired or by going online at www.fema.gov
704,993 servings of meals and snacks were distributed
3.4 Million cubic yards of storm related debris has been collected statewide
$100.8 Million To date, FEMA Public Assistance has approved $100.8 million for infrastructure costs, such as the replacement and restoration of power poles, distribution lines and service, debris removal and emergency protective measures
$127.2 Million More than $127 million in Individual Assistance has been disbursed, including $63 million in rental assistance for housing...
