The disaster registration line - 1-800-621-3362, TTY 1-800-462-7585 -- for southwest Virginians affected by late May and June storms, tornadoes and flooding is changing hours of operation, recovery officials announced today.
"As of July 12, the registration line will now be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.," said Federal Coordinating Officer Tom Davies of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The deadline to register for state and federal disaster assistance is August 16.
Those with questions about the status of their request for help, or who want to change something on their registration or who have other disaster related issues, may call 1-800-621-3362,`TTY 1-800-462-7585, and ask for the Helpline. The Helpline also is available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
