FEMA's Teleregistration And Disaster Recovery Centers To Close For New Year?s Day Holiday

San Juan, P.R. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Teleregistration and the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2004 in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday, indicated Commonwealth and federal disaster recovery officials.

However, FEMA’s toll free registration line, 1-800-621-3362 (TTY at 1-800-462-7585 for hearing or speech impaired individuals), will continue operations on Friday, January 2, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Similarly, the DRCs will resume operations on Friday, January 2, 2004 and will be operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., until further notice.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
