Nashville, TN -- The mobile disaster recovery center in Lexington will close at 6 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2003, after a five-day run, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. The center at 547 West Church Street is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this week.

Disaster recovery specialists from FEMA, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Small Business Administration are staffing the center to explain assistance programs and answer questions from area residents who suffered losses in May's tornadoes, severe storms and flooding.

Residents with disaster-related questions can also get answers and information by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For people with hearing or speech impairment, the number to call is 1-800-462-7585.

Residents who suffered losses in disaster-declared counties have only until July 7 to register for assistance by calling those toll-free numbers between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
