San Antonio, TX -- Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and State Coordinating Officer Duke Mazurek of the Division of Emergency Management, Texas Department of Public Safety remind those who have been affected by the Texas floods of 2002 to apply as soon as possible by calling FEMA's toll-free registration number at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY: 800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired.

The deadline to register for state and federal assistance is Sept. 2, 2002.

"Don't wait. The time to register for federal or state assistance is running out," said Mazurek. "Even if you're not sure you qualify for assistance, call the toll-free number and register."

To date, $39,051,257.41 in disaster assistance has been approved for more than 17,800 Texas home and business owners who were affected by the floods.
