Beckley, WV -- Nearly $2.4 million in disaster housing grants for residents affected by the recent severe storms, flooding and landslides in southern West Virginia has been approved, state and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials announced today.
As of Tuesday, 3,483 individuals had registered with FEMA for assistance. Of these, 1,835 were referred to the Individual and Family Grant Program and 3,129 were being processed for Disaster Housing assistance.
Four counties - McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Wyoming - were designated for assistance after President George W. Bush declared West Virginia a major disaster area on May 5 following the recent severe storms, flooding, and landslides.
