Wise, VA -- The social service benefits of flood disaster victims are not affected if they apply for federal disaster assistance.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials say emergency housing grants or other disaster assistance will not jeopardize their social service benefits or incur tax liabilities. Applicants also should have no concerns about confidentiality.

Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta said, "Registration for FEMA disaster assistance is confidential and the information supplied by flood victims is not shared with any other agency."
