Traveling Disaster Recovery Teams to Visit Counties

Emporia, Kan. -- State and federal disaster officials have assigned Traveling Disaster Recovery Teams to assist victims of the recent winter ice storms in rural areas who are unable to reach the fixed Disaster Recovery Centers in the Kansas City area.

The joint Recovery Teams, provided by the State of Kansas and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will set up in disaster-declared counties on an as needed basis offering the same services and assistance available in the fixed centers.

"We realize that there are many people in rural areas who have questions on available assistance and recovery programs," said Carlos Mitchell FEMA's federal coordinating officer for the Kansas disaster. " We are trying to make the recovery easier by bringing these joint teams to them."

The joint Recovery Teams will be at the following locations on the following dates:

The joint Disaster Recovery Teams will provide detailed program information to those who have already applied for assistance but who may have further questions. Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies will be available, including loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Applicants are encouraged to apply by using FEMA's toll-free registration number 1-800-621 FEMA (3362) before visiting the center. Those with hearing- or speech- impairments may register by calling 1-800-462-7585. The registration lines are operational from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week.
