Houston, TX -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency has received more than 119,000 teleregistrations from individuals seeking assistance following Tropical Storm Allison. That figure ranks the storm the third largest federally declared disaster in the United States in the last five years.

Allison disaster applicants can receive updated information concerning their application status by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Helpline number, at 800-525-0321 (800-462-7585 for speech- and hearing-impaired persons). FEMA personnel answer phone calls between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"Allison applicants can check on the status of applications for disaster assistance by calling the Helpline for answers," said Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells.

"We feel fortunate that we have the ability to guide flood victims through the recovery process by phone," said Butch Smith, state-coordinating officer of the Division of Emergency Management (DEM), Texas Department of Public Safety.
