San Juan, PR -- Officials from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will reopen the mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on June 19 in Cabo Rojo in order to continue assistance to individuals affected by the May floods. The DRC will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
"It was decided to reopen the mobile center when it became apparent that there was still a need for FEMA and disaster loan representatives to interface with residents affected by the floods," said Justo Hernández, federal coordinating officer for the recovery effort.
Though the center will not be taking applications, there will be phones available to residents who do not have phone service. The only way to register for federal disaster assistance is by calling 1-800-462-9029. Hearing and speech impaired individuals may call TTY at 1-800-462-7585.
"The deadline to register for federal and commonwealth disaster assistance is July 15," said Hernández.
Some disaster programs include temporary housing assistance, individual and family grants, and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans.
The center will remain open until June 29 at the following location:
Rebeca Colberg Coliseum
(Recreational Leaders Office)
Highway 312 (km 0.5)B Sec. El Campito
Cabo Rojo, P.R.
