RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the North Carolina Emergency Management Division today announced that the Pitt County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Greenville will close at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4.

This leaves only one of the original 19 DRCs established to serve people affected by the 1999 hurricanes and floods still open. The site in Tarboro at 3003 N. Main Street will remain open until further notice.

Anyone having questions about the status of their recovery applications or federal/state programs available to persons who suffered losses in the September and October storms may call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 or, for the speech and hearing impaired, TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Residents in the 66 North Carolina counties who still have not registered for recovery assistance have until February 17 to do so. The number to register is 1-800-462-9029 or TTY 1-800-5785, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
