PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The extended deadline to register for federal disaster assistance is coming up on Friday, December 17, 1999. Representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are urging those affected by Hurricane Floyd to call the toll-free teleregistration number - 1-800-462-9029 - as soon as possible.

"With the busy holiday season approaching, we're asking that people call our 800 number now so that registering for disaster recovery assistance doesn't get lost in the shuffle," said Peter Martinasco, Federal Coordinating Officer." We want to help people avoid a second disaster - missing the registration deadline."

In addition to the closing of the registration period, the Disaster Recovery Center in Somerville will be closing on December 17th. The SBA Workshops in Paramus and Wayne, however, will remain open until further notice. Normal hours of operation at all three locations are Monday through Saturday from 9:00am until 7:00pm.
