FEMA Broadens Disaster Recovery Outreach

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The eighteenth state-federal disaster recovery center will open Monday at Lumberton in Robeson County, and a mobile recovery center will make stops in Bertie, Pitt, Pamlico and Martin counties during the next two weeks.

The Lumberton center will be located at 3409 Lackey Street It will open Monday at noon and remain open until 7 p.m. After that it will maintain regular Recovery Center hours, which are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until further notice. Hours for the mobile centers are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at all locations.

Staffed by specialists from the state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and volunteer agencies, the centers will assist individuals and business who have previously registered for assistance on the FEMA application hotline 1-800-462-9029. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call toll-free 1-800-462-7585. After registering, officials urge applicants to bring their registration number as well as their social security numbers when visiting a disaster center.

Program specialists will supply answers to queries about recovery programs, including housing assistance, available rental resources, SBA low-interest loan applications, business loans, mitigation and other issues. The staff also will help storm victims determine the status of applications already filed.

- The following disaster recovery centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The centers are intended to serve flood victims who have already registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through its Application Hotline:
