NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opened in Newport News on Thursday, September 23, at 10 a.m. to assist disaster victims. The DRC is located at Newmarket Fair, 5200 West Mercury Boulevard.
Citizens may meet with state, federal, and voluntary agency representatives at the DRC. Anyone suffering losses or damage from the recent tornado and flooding disasters is encouraged to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by calling 1-800-462-9029 or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) 7 a.m. to midnight seven days a week.
The DRC will operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays. The DRC is located inside the mall near the Sears entrance on the second level. Those visiting the center may park on the east side of Newmarket Fair behind Sears.
DRC staff can help victims of Hurricane Floyd and Hampton residents who were victims of Hurricane Dennis. The Hampton DRC at the Virginia National Guard Armory closed on Wednesday, September 22.
