CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Federal disaster-recovery funds are now available to help eligible individuals and businesses in Jim Hogg County recover from the effects of Hurricane Bret. This brings to 13 the number of South Texas counties included in the presidential disaster declaration following Hurricane Bret.
Disaster-recovery assistance, to be coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the Texas Division of Emergency Management, may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, minor home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also will be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.
To apply for assistance, individuals may call the toll-free teleregistration number between 8 a.m. and
7 p.m. daily until further notice. The number is 1-800-462-9029 or for individuals with speech or hearing impairments, the number is 1-800-462-7585.
Other counties eligible for assistance to individuals are Aransas, Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Nueces, San Patricio, Webb and Willacy.
