OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Secretary of Commerce Howard Barnett announced today that the Oklahoma Department of Commerce has set up a toll free line to help businesses damaged in the May 3rd tornadoes. Business owners should call 1-877-OKLA BUS (655-2287). Barnett said the line will be manned from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Here at Commerce, we want to help businesses understand and access assistance programs offered by various state and federal agencies that can help any Oklahoma company damaged by the storms. In order to facilitate these efforts, we're asking businesses to call us and let us know the losses they've suffered. By identifying the needs of businesses, we'll know where the gaps are," said Barnett.

"We are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help Oklahoma businesses get back on their feet. One of the first things Commerce staff will do is to make sure business owners have contacted FEMA's toll free assistance line at 1-800-462-9029," Barnett added.

"The Commerce department will also offer information on programs available to rebuild infrastructure, workforce and other assistance. One example of how we can help, is to make companies aware that they can combine funds to expand or modernize with funds for disaster relief. As the lead agency for economic development in the state, the mission of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce is to stimulate the creation, expansion and retention of jobs and growth of investment in Oklahoma. Existing businesses are the foundation of our economy and we want to help," said Barnett.
