California Winter Freeze Disaster Update

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- FEMA's regional office in San Francisco (Region IX) continues to work with state officials on the recovery from last December's severe freeze.

As of May 10, 5,316 people have registered for assistance under the Mortgage and Rental Assistance Program and more than $2.5 million has been paid out to 1,591 eligible applications. Between December 20 and 28, 1998, California's San Joaquin Valley farming communities were hit with freezing temperatures that severely impacted the region's crops.
