WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The following events occurred during the last week of April, 1998.

  • President Clinton signed an emergency declaration, FEMA-3125-EM, for the state of Arkansas, to provide emergency temporary housing to residents after severe weather struck Mississippi County.

  • Kentucky's governor requested Federal disaster relief in the wake of severe weather that hit the state on April 16, 1998.

  • Up to 50,000 residents and 18,000 businesses were impacted when a landslide ruptured a gas line in San Benito County, Calif.

  • State and Day County, South Dakota officials were assessing the potential for damage due to Spring flooding.

  • Lawton, Okla. was shaken by an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale.
