Culebra and Boy Scouts to Spread the Hurricane Prevention message

Culebra, Puerto Rico April 29, 1999-Culebra's local troop members of the Boy Scouts will be visiting homes throughout Puerto Rico's first Project Impact community April 29-May 2 to discuss hurricane damage prevention and to celebrate "Project Impact Camporee."

During "Project Impact Camporee," scout leaders and young scouts across the eastern side of Puerto Rico will provide hurricane awareness and prevention information materials to the residents of Culebra. The scouts, specially trained in disaster preparedness and hurricane mitigation measures, will go door to door, providing individualized consultation and advice.

The Boy Scouts participating will receive a distinctive merit badge on emergency preparedness and a specially designed patch commemorating "Project Impact Camporee."

The Atlantic hurricane season, as designated by the National Weather Service, begins June 1 and concludes November 1.
