WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Fischer fire in Comal County, Texas is approximately 90 percent contained. This fire burned about 1,500 acres and forced up to 300 people to evacuate their homes on March 2. This prompted the approval of FEMA's first Fire Suppression Assistance Grant in 1999.
Texas officials report no injuries or deaths associated with the fire. The Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas National Guard, State Forest Service and local fire departments continue fire suppression operations and are monitoring any possible flare-ups.
