Mississippi Requests Damage Assessment for Ice Storm

Washington, January 13, 1999 -- Mississippi state officials have requested FEMA join them to conduct Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) as result of the ice storms in late December. Teams will assess damage related to the Public Assistance (PA) disaster program in 34 counties that were affected by an ice storm Dec. 23 through 26, 1998.

Representatives from FEMA's Region Four staff will join state officials today to begin surveying the counties. The counties are Attala, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Grenada, Humphreys, Issaquena, Itawamba, Kemper, Leake, Lee, Leflore, Lowndes, Monroe, Montgomery, Neshoba, Noxubee, Okitibbeha, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tishomingo, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winston, Yalobusha and Yazoo.
