WHAT: Gonzales Disaster Recovery Center will close 6 p.m. Friday, Dec.4.

WHY: Due to declining visits and at the request of Texas Division of Emergency Management, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Gonzales, will close at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4

More than 700 visits were recorded at the center since it opened Nov. 2. "Although the center is closing, area residents can still apply for disaster assistance or get their questions answered about any assistance programs available to them," said State Coordinating Officer Ed Laundy.

Those who have not registered, can call the toll-free registration number at 1-800-462-9029, (TTY: 1-800-462-7585), Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The final day for applying for disaster assistance is Dec. 21, 1998.

For those who have already applied for assistance and have questions about the status of their application, the FEMA Helpline is available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321 (TTY: 1-800-660-8005)

Those who have questions about Small Business Administration loans can call the SBA toll-free number, 1-800-366-6306.
