September 13, 2010 La Joya, TX September 17, 2010 Progreso, TX As a part of continuing efforts to aid Texans affected by Hurricane Alex, FEMA operates Mobile Disaster Recovery Center that provide flexibility to affected areas. John Veach Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Manager We brought the MDRC the Mobile Disaster Recovery Center here this morning and we are set up just for today and tomorrow to help applicants here in the Progreso Texas area from Hurricane Alex. Layne Segda Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Manager It’s just a good deal having this motor home here and being able to move around because you get closer to were the damages were some of these people might not be able to make it to a center that’s 30 miles away and we are coming right to were the damage is. John Veach Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Manager The mobile units really help us a lot this give us the option to come to these smaller communities and spend a few days helping the applicants were we don’t have to run telephone lines in or get permanent rental and things like that so it’s a really good way for us to serve these smaller communities. Layne Segda Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Manager We are set up herein La Joya, this is our fifth different location that we’ve done in this disaster in South Texas. The applicants come in just as we were a fixed center, but the difference here is we are operating all from this motor home and their satellite and their power and we can also move around which like I said we are going to six different locations this being the fifth one in south Texas. John Veach Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Manager You can see the dish on the roof which get us internet access and it get us telephone access so for instance if we were using the telephones off the bus today we would have Atlanta telephone numbers because that’s were the end of this is and that’s the real beauty of having this Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers because we can set up just about anywhere in fact he can provide power in addition to computers and telephones he can actually provide electrical power with its generator for us. This brings FEMA right in the door step of folks that have been affected and of course there was more damage over here by the river than there was at the other end of the county so it’s a really good idea for us to be here and be in front of these people.
