A Vietnamese family recovers from Hurricane Ike after damages to their home and fishing boat in San Leon, Texas


Alex: I was in the open sea fishing for shrimp when I learned that hurricane Ike was approaching.

Alex: I had to bring my boat to safety. It was a long way. It took me 8 hours to get back.

Tu-Anh: After the hurricane, we didn't have a place to stay until we could find a hotel close to our house.

Tu-Anh: Then, we applied for FEMA assistance.

Tu-Anh: We're approved by FEMA initially to stay in a hotel for two weeks

Tu-Anh: Then, we were approved to stay in a hotel for over two months paid by FEMA.

Tu-Anh: Then, we applied for rental assistance

Tu-Anh: FEMA gave us a mobile home to live in

Alex: The United States government lends us money to fix our boat, and helps us with everything

Tu-Anh: I have two things to say First, I pray for hurricanes to never occur to anyone in the world.

Tu-Anh: Second, make sure you buy insurance, because without it, you will have troubles if a hurricanes hits.

Tu-Anh: We have received a lot of help here

Tu-Anh: We'll stay here forever
