Inspections of Homes in Flooded Areas of Bismarck, North Dakota March 26, 2009. Ray Ziegler/Flood Plan Administrator/City of Bismarck: Yes, this whole area is evacuated. It is an area that is one mile so wide by about five or six miles long. I think we are talking about two hundreds homes in here for sure. I got six inspectors working in this area right now. We are going door to door doing external inspections, and leaving posters to say if it is occupiable or uninhabitable. We may have to come back in here to get some of these areas because we have water on the road yet. The flood water is two feet deep in spots. Best case scenario the ice jam dissipates to the south, water keeps flowing which means the elevation of this water will keep going down. And it stays cool like this for awhile. Worst case scenario, the sun comes out, it warms up and that ice jam up north lets loose and plugs up this one, then we've got real real problems again. For more information, visit www.fema.gov
