What was unusual for this event is that the homes that were flooded 75 percent of those were outside the 100 year floodplain. You expect this you think that it might happen in coastal communities. But in metro Atlanta, its not what you expect. Weve been working closely with FEMA working on the project worksheets trying to get the infrastructure repaired and some of it bringing it back up to better condition than it was before the flood. As a manager, this is my first experience getting to work with directly with GEMA and FEMA in the roles weve been training for all this type. It honestly was a lot smoother and a lot quicker than I ever expected it to be. We just appreciate the support that weve got through GEMA and FEMA. Theres a lot of time and energy that goes into it. And our FEMA folks in particular have been patient with us. This is actually our first declaration as a new city, so theres been a lot of learning on our part. I just would like to say we greatly appreciate the cooperation of all the FEMA staffers whove worked with us. Like I said, this is my first emergency being a manager of it and I cant say enough good things about the Georgia Emergency Management, Federal emergency management and Atlanta-Fulton County. Theyve all really jumped to everybody pulled their weight and came together as a team. It has been a learning experience for us and we appreciate all the support that weve had from the state and the federal government as well. We had a wonderful working relationship with the representative we had from FEMA. She kept constant contact during the time we had shelters open. We had GEMA help we had representatives from FEMA. They were all working together to resolve issues there. Its been tremendous.
