American Samoa Governor, Togiola T.A. Tulafono, provides an update on the FEMA response and recovery efforts in American Samoa. I want to acknowledge the tremendous assistance the Secretary and the Region IX and the Pacific Area Office has given to us. Everything has been running smoothly; the daily meetings in the morning and the afternoons and briefings with the national offices and departments has really been very helpful in focusing on the objectives and making sure that this is reviewed on a daily basis, that the mission is being conducted and is delivered and that everything seems to be working very well at this point. As we go into the recovery mode of this operation, I am very confident with the excellent management and direction by the FCO, Mr. Kenneth Tingman and all the rest of the federal team on the ground today in American Samoa. I can't say enough in appreciation of their great work and their compassion for what they are doing. We've passed from the life saving and life sustaining part of the mission to begin the actual recovery so we were talking this morning about actually beginning the cleanup of the debris and the homes and hopefully getting the tents issued starting next week so the families who wish to go back to their place of residence and begin their own recovery will be be able to do that.
