[GFX: Update on FEMA recovery actions in American Samoa by Kenneth Tingman, Federal Coordinating Officer, DR-1859, October 3, 2009] Disaster response is actually going quite well. We've transitioned from our response phase into a recovery phase. Our two big areas right now are continuing with the feeding. We put a bit more muscle into the feeding effort today by increasing the food that's going out into the disaster areas through the local government and we're also working on getting more generators. We've got four generators that arrived today, we've got more generators arriving this evening and we're putting the generators into the community based on where the local power company wants us to do it and we're restoring power around the island based on those priorities. The challenges continue to be logisitcs support because we're very far away from the mainland and the growing number of requirements for quite honestly the power here on the island. We assessed the power station that was damaged and it's more damaged than we thought so we're refining the requirements and those might be some great challenges. As for any other challenges, we don't have any right now. One of the other big goals for next weel is to establish our own Joint Field Office and to establish a Disaster Recovery Center so the people can come and apply for assistance. Today I'm going to be taking a helicopter ride. The USS Ingraham has two helicopters that we have access to. We're going to go around the island and assess the damages from the air just one more time before we let this asset go. [Sound of helicopter]
