In spring 2009 Tanana Village was affected by flooding and ice jams. FEMA logistics team provides support to volunteers and residents to repair their property. A barge loaded with supplies is headed to the village. Leslie Burgin: Were pre-positioning were waiting for the barge to arrive were making sure that our flatbed is here, the warehouse is clear of all debris we can, no nails no sharp. Janice Regalo: Were in the warehouse now, we just came in and cleaned it up, cleaned up this floor space moved some things around so we can fit the material inside thats going to be coming in off the barge. Leslie Burgin: Were in a remote village here only accessible by boat and air. Everythings already done, its all lined out logistically-wise, safety-wise. From here well wait for it to make land fall well let them offload, set it up to the high water mark and then well go in and pick it up and move it. Janice Regalo: We come out here as a team, we have the titles of who we answer to and our chain of command and who does the reporting and what have you not, but when we get out here and weve worked together in the past on numerous disasters and its a team effort you know. And we know what were doing, were both heavy equipment certified. Leslie Burgin: Just doing what we came here to do basically. Were doing our job. (Regallo were backing up). Doing what were told, get it done on time, in a cost effective way as fast as we can. Anything to do to make the village and the tribe as easy and as comfortable as we can from what theyve been through already, we need to make sure theyre taken care of. Thats what were sent here to do and thats what we do. The barge will deliver among other thing: Lumber Insulation Sheet rock Tools ATVs Fuel Air Compressor Ladders
