Hurricane Sandy survivors who sustained losses in the storm should register for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible. Time is limited and the deadline is approaching. Homeowners, renters or businesses with damage caused by Hurricane Sandy between Oct. 27 and Nov. 8, 2012 may be eligible for assistance. Grants are available for housing repairs, the replacement of items that make a home habitable and other disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance. If you suffered disaster damage and you live in Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven or New London counties, you should register. Residents of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribal Nation located within New London County who suffered damage should also register. Survivors can register anytime at www.disasterassistance.gov or with a smartphone at m.fema.gov.
