The new initiative is a neighborhood
task force initiative and some of us
are going door to door, working together
with IA, Individual Assistance and CR,
Community Relation teams, making sure
that everyone has received the utmost
assistance they can. But, in this case
we have the team together. They can
actually open up the case on site,
find out the issues that are hanging
up the process and taking care of those
things right on the spot.
And what Ill simply do is get on the
computer, look up their FEMA application,
their registration and see what it is
thats holding them up. It could be
something very simple like answering a
question incorrectly that they didnt
understand when they did the application
or perhaps their insurance has not come
through yet, so nothing has been funded.
It can be very basic things,
or it could be that they just need
to appeal a decision that was made.
A couple of days ago, we ran into
a gentleman that was homeless and
when we called in we found out that
he was available for temporary
housing benefits. And that night,
rather than being on the street
he was in a hotel room.
Quite a few people that actually
came in and requested assistance and
they were real easy fixes.
We looked up their registration numbers,
we found up what was holding them up
and the people went about their way
to get that information, they were
going to take it to a local disaster
center and have it faxed in and they
should be on the road and getting
their money and their road to recovery.
