Plaquemines Parish October 2, 2012 FEMA Corps began their work in the field with CR Teams visiting communities affected by Hurricane Isaac. Mike Byrne Branch One Director So you guys excited about going out today? Emma Lewins FEMA Corps Community Relations Specialist We are here to assist FEMA with disaster recovery from Hurricane Isaac. FEMA Corps is a partnership between AmeriCorps and Triple C and FEMA. The reason why it is so huge is it’s never been done before. A lot of Triple C traditional members have worked with FEMA in disaster preparations and recoveries but now we are a specialized group that just does disasters. I specifically am going door to door, making sure that people have called the number have registered with FEMA and that they either have applied for the loans or if not, in the process of applying and making sure that they get all the help that we can give them or any of the other small businesses and other local officials can give their help as well. Today was really an eye opener having never seen hurricane disaster before really close up like this. It was very interesting to see the power of nature and yet the strength of the community.
