On March 27, 2008, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the General Services Administration hosted the National Logistics Coordination Forum that included participants from the federal, state and local governments and the private sector. The mission, to synchronize and fully integrate logistics management and resource support capabilities into an effective national supply chain management system by leveraging the strengths, capabilities, and resources of its partners. The forum opened dialogue to discuss ideas and ways that FEMA can work more effectively with its partners, including the private sector.
More than 100 people attended the event to weigh in on a variety of topics that included lessons learned, challenges in logistics and the National Response Framework. "The discussions and comments generated in today's forum will be of tremendous value in our endeavor to achieve the National Logistics Coordinator Concept", said FEMA Assistant Administrator Eric Smith. "It is only through collaboration and transparency built through solid partnership that we will transform and enhance our capability to provide effective disaster responses."
Additional information on the forum will be available in the upcoming weeks.
