FEMA Response To The Inspector General's Report On FEMA's Award Of 36 Trailer Maintenance And Deactivation Of Travel Trailers And Manufactured Housing Contracts

"The FEMA overall objective during the award of the 36 Trailer Maintenance and Deactivation Contracts was to maximize competition, conduct a fair competitive procurement, stimulate the local economy by using local contractors, and be responsive to disaster victims needs.

FEMA's contracting officers did a remarkable job sourcing and placing these contracts in such a short timeframe. They treated bidders fairly and performed their due diligence to ensure taxpayer dollars were put to good use. The use of price preference for local-based companies, technical assistance and outreach to small local businesses, local job creation and increased commerce, as well as the overall public benefit are things the Agency is proud of.

FEMA welcomes the Inspector General's report and the agency is eager to implement any suggestions into its business practices to better perform its duties while being a conscientious steward of taxpayer dollars. The IG recommendations coupled with the Agency's lessons learned will assist the Administrator's goal of making the new FEMA stronger, more flexible and cost-effective."
