  • Aiman Youseff is a disaster survivor who was born in Hassake, Syria. He lost his home on Staten Island after Hurricane Sandy struck the coast of New York on October 29, 2013. The surge from the hurricane trapped many people in their homes on Midland Ave. Aiman Youssef rescued many of them. The day after the hurricane, Aiman Youssef started a volunteer recovery hub on Midland Avenue where Mr. Youssef lived for 20 years before the surge from the hurricane destroyed his home. This is Aiman's story. "$100 Million Man ... After Dark"

    NECHAMA Jewish Response to Disaster has been working on Staten Island since Hurricane Sandy struck on October 29, 2012. NECHAMA'S goal has been to help disaster survivors recover and rebuild their lives after the storm. This is one of NECHAMA'S Staten Island stories.
  • Jeremiah Ologhobo, a Nigerian by birth, traveled to America, and after waiting five years, he became a U.S.  citizen on January 9, 2013. Jeremiah then joined FEMA on January 15 to work in Community Relations in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Jeremiah is currently working as a Neighborhood Taskforce Initiate crewmember. This is his story.

  • FEMA Corps is a partnership between FEMA and AmeriCorp and the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), made up of young adults ages 18 to 24 year who commit to a 10-month term of full-time service. 

During Hurricane Sandy, 24 teams composed of 236 individuals, deployed to New York to work in different areas of the disaster.
