New Orleans, La., Dec. 14, 2008 -- Greater Gentilly High School, housed in the new Lake Area School, took the place of Lake Area Middle School, which was damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Katrina. Greater Gentilly High School one of the “Quick Start” schools was funded as a “capped alternate project” for the Recovery School District, meaning funds have been funneled from other facilities to pay for Greater Gentilly's construction costs.
