Morton Scholarship Foundation Change of Location Alternate Project Orleans Parish, Louisiana August 2014//Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005, near Buras, Louisiana (LA) as a Category 3 storm. Maximum sustained winds at landfall were estimated at 125 miles per hour and were accompanied by a strong and damaging storm surge well above normal high tide. President George W. Bush declared a major disaster for the State of Louisiana and signed a major disaster declaration (FEMA-1603-DR-LA) on the same day, authorizing the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide federal assistance in designated areas of Louisiana./This Draft EA has been prepared to analyze the potential consequences to the natural and human environment associated with the Proposed Action, the No Action Alternative, and other potential alternatives per the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) (42 United States Code [USC] 55 parts 4321 et seq., 2000), the President’s Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) implementing regulations (40 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] 30 parts 1500 et seq., 2004), and 44 CFR Emergency Management and Assistance Ch. I Part 10.

  • NAC Recommendations and FEMA Response from the October 18, 2012 NAC Meeting

    The NAC met in public session in October 2012 to review the progress of its four subcommittees since its meeting in July 2012 and deliberate potential recommendations set forth by the subcommittees. Through discussions and deliberations, the NAC concurred to forward seven recommendations on the following issues: National Flood Mapping Program, FEMA's Youth Preparedness Council, FEMA's Private Sector Division, Emergency Management Institute, and International Urban Search and Rescue Teams. The NAC formally submitted these recommendations in a memo dated December 14, 2012.
