First Draft Tribal Declarations Pilot Guidance
On January 29, 2013, President Obama signed the Sandy Recovery Improvement Act. The Act included a provision to provide federally-recognized Indian tribal governments the option to request a Presidential emergency or major disaster declaration independent of a state. As a first step in developing tribal-specific declarations procedures, FEMA developed a first draft of the Tribal Declarations Pilot Guidance. When final, the Tribal Declarations Pilot Guidance will describe how FEMA processes and evaluates requests for assistance under the Stafford Act from tribal governments.
