FEMA's Risk Mapping Assessment and Planning (Risk MAP) Strategy combines mapping, assessment, and planning tools in to one program to encourage beneficial partnership and innovative use of data to achieve reduction in flood losses. Eligibility for the protection and assistance available through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is based on communities' adoption and enforcement of flood risk ordinances. The better the data provided to communities, the more effective the flood mitigation strategies. This FAQ provides answers for individuals and community officials on how to use Risk MAP data to improve planning for flood emergencies and compliance with the NFIP's rules.
