Environmental Assessment for Native Village of Eagle (New), Alaska (August 2009)
As a result of the flooding and ice jams, FEMA was authorized under a Presidential disaster on June 11, 2009, (FEMA-1843-DR-AK), to implement the Public Assistance (PA) Program for the Village of Eagle. The Village of Eagle (Village) is comprised of two sites discussed in this report: the old Village and the new Village. The old Village site was virtually destroyed by the moving ice jams and flooding that occurred during this disaster. The new Village site has been in the planning and
development stages since 2000. FEMA anticipates that there will be a need for restoring permanent public facilities and
infrastructure, destroyed by the flooding and ice in the old Village, with similar services for the residents as they relocate to the new Village. Functional, safe, reliable, and effective public services and infrastructure are critical elements in the rebuilding and recovery effort, and are essential for public health and safety of the relocating community.
