Environmental Assessment for the Neodesha Swimming Pool, City of Neodesha, Wilson County, Kansas

As a result of severe storms, flooding and tornadoes in Kansas between June 30 and July 2, 2007, a major disaster was declared under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. § 5121-5206 (the Stafford Act). The original City of Neodesha swimming pool was substantially damaged and a damage assessment indicated the structure to be more than 50 percent damaged and therefore eligible for replacement. The original swimming pool facility was constructed in the 1940s and was contaminated when flood waters carrying sewage and mud entered the pool filter systems. The current situation has left the community of Neodesha without a functioning community pool used for exercise and recreation purposes. The purpose of the proposed action is to replace the damaged swimming pool with a new facility so that the City of Neodesha can provide a new swimming pool for the community.
