Environmental Assessment for St. Martin Bus/Maintenance Facility Relocation Project, Jackson County, Mississippi

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Mississippi, inundating and destroying the two bus maintenance structures. With damages in excess of the 50% repair/replacement ratio, FEMA’s criteria for demolition and replacement of the facilities were met. In accordance with FEMA’s policy for FEMA-1604-DR-MS, the former St. Martin Bus/Maintenance Facility site will be returned to grade and revegetated. The Jackson County School District is currently conducting bus maintenance activities out of a temporary facility to the west of the St. Martin High School on Yellow Jacket Boulevard in Ocean Springs. The need for the project is to provide the school district with a permanent bus maintenance facility in a location that is less prone to flooding.
