HAZUS-MH Application: Displaced Households and Short-Term Sheltering: Hurricane Dennis

The HAZUS-MH map series templates serve many purposes. HAZUS User Groups (HUGs) can use the maps for public awareness and outreach. Emergency managers and decision makers can use the maps to show the application of HAZUS-MH to support rapid impact assessment and disaster response for earthquake, hurricane and flood emergencies. Some of the potential uses for this map include: (Pre-event) update inventory of evacuation shelters; Use with Quick Assessment Report to estimate number and location of displaced households and people who require short-term shelter due to wind damage; Combine with SLOSH/surge analysis to identify additional households potentially displaced by flooding; Use analysis to scale the size of the housing recovery mission; identify housing support strategies; and determine the level of staffing to support the mission.
