The HAZUS-MH map series templates serve many purposes. HAZUS User Groups (HUGs) can use the maps for public awareness and outreach. Emergency managers and decision makers can use the maps to show the application of HAZUS-MH to support rapid impact assessment and disaster response for earthquake, hurricane and flood emergencies. Some of the potential uses for this map include: (Pre-event uses) prepare GIS maps of Social Vulnerability that identify concentrations of low-income/unemployed/elderly populations aggregated at the census block level; (Post-event uses) use of Social Vulnerability maps with hazard impact maps (Wind, Surge, Flood) to identify population most at risk/in need of shelter, food, ice and other support; and use of Social Vulnerability and Hazard impact maps with Residential Damage analysis to identify population most at risk/in need of housing assistance.
