Environmental Assessment for 350-foot Communications Tower, Walnut Grove, Leake County, Mississippi (MSWIN 20614) (May 2010)

Following Hurricane Katrina, Congress appropriated funds for a grant to the State of Mississippi for an interoperable communications system. The funds are being administered by FEMA under the Mississippi Interoperable Communications Grant Program and proposed to be used for the construction of several communications towers across the state. The proposed telecommunications sites would be part of the Mississippi Wireless Integrated Network (MSWIN) project, which is intended to provide and enhance interoperable communications uses for a wide variety of government, public safety, and first-responder users. In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and FEMA’s regulations for implementing NEPA at 44 CFR Part 10, an Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared for the tower sites to evaluate the potential impacts of the proposed projects on the human and natural environment. FEMA has adopted the EAs prepared by a consultant to the MSWIN project.
