3RiversHUG CUP Students Begin a New Chapter in HAZUS History
In March 2006, the 3Rivers HAZUS User Group (3RiversHUG) made history-by voting to initiate the first-ever student chapter of the HAZUS user group at the California University of Pennsylvania. The inception of the student chapter of the 3RiversHUG marked the beginning of a true “win-win” situation. For their part, students are gaining valuable real-world experience that augments their education through class projects, field assignments, service-learning activities, and internships. At the same time, various entities-including local emergency management offices, HAZUS users, GIS users, regional planning agencies, and county and municipal governments-are getting their projects completed more quickly and efficiently by leveraging the energy and efforts of the student chapter.

Animals in Emergencies
This FEMA Kit includes two DVDs created by a joint venture between the departments of the Army and Homeland Security, through the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP). These movies address what planners, public officials, and pet owners need to consider when planning for emergency animal and pet evacuation, transportation, and sheltering. The "What Planners Need to Know," DVD presents information for state and local planners. The "What Owners Need to Know," DVD focuses on the planning tools for pet owners. Each DVD contains a video presentation on pet preparedness as well as supplemental material designed to assist in planning that can be accessed through use of your computer's hard drive. Appealing Your Flood Insurance Claim
After you receive your adjuster’s estimate, you may have questions or concerns or need further explanations of decisions that have been made, especially with regard to coverage or the dollar amount of damages. An appeal will help you resolve claim issues, but it cannot give you added coverage or extend claim limits beyond those in your flood insurance policy.
