Steward D. Beckham was appointed Director of the Office of National Capital Region Coordination, September 2009. In this position, Beckham works closely with federal, state and local partners to sustain a common regional approach to homeland security and address priorities, including: federal integration; catastrophic planning; regional risk-based capability development; and regional governance participation and coordination.
Beckham brings 26 years of experience in both public and private sector leadership positions as well as a career in private law practice. Most recently he worked in a private law practice as a transactional attorney in Baltimore.
From 2002 to 2007, Mr. Beckham served as Chief Financial Officer for Public Safety and Justice in the District of Columbia. In this role he was responsible for the financial operations of seventeen District Government agencies including the Metropolitan Police Department, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Corrections, the Office of Unified Communications, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the DC National Guard and the Office of Administrative Hearings.
Earlier in his career, Beckham spent time as the DC Chief Financial Officer for Fire and Emergency Medical Services and held similar posts at the DC Department of Corrections. In Baltimore, he was also the financial lead as Chief of Fiscal Services for the Baltimore City Fire Department and the Baltimore City Commission on Aging and Retirement Education.
Mr. Beckham holds a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from Howard University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
Beckham and his wife live in Baltimore with their two children.
