Ode to Fran
by: Andrew
Oh, houses were crushed and trees torn up and walls ripped
like paper
Oh woe to those who stood in the way of this phenomenal caper!
She came to us swift in the night, and a ruckus she did make
And in the morning, she did leave chaos in her wake!
It seems she fancied to take a bath, for water she did leave
And in the morning when all awoke, many limbs were there to
cleave!
A tale of broken fence and littered yard, many could tell
well
And of creeks and streams and rivers, my did they swell!
A tree of massive girth fell on a Chevrolet
Oh Fran another visit, pray do not pay!

Fran
by: Cassandra
Winds are stronger hour by hour,
trees are falling with so much power.
Lights flickering through the night,
some people scared, some filled with might.
Holding on to each other through the night.
Winds come down through the night,
thinking of a way to make things right.
Hoping it won't happen again tonight.
Rainy days pass us through.
Wondering what the past will do.
Knowing it will affect us for life.
Making-up work in school and home.
This is from FRAN,
the greatest storm we've ever known.

Frightened
by Maeve
Lightning, thunder, pouring rain,
Lights turned out, glaring picture frames,
Frightened! Oh, so frightened!
Wind is howling, twigs are popping,
All the chirping crickets stopping,
Scary! Oh, so scary!
Children crying, leaves are rustling,
Trees are bending, bats are hustling,
Horrible! Oh, so horrible!

Hurricane
by: Ravi and Fulton
Sticks flying. People crying.
Rain falling. Wind wailing.
Everything falls apart.
Whirling, spinning wind.
Thunder, lightning.
Trees crashing down
silence.

Hurricane Fran
by: Sharon & Meghan
Hurricane Fran was cruel, but we didn't go to school.
The wind was roaring, and the trees were soaring
.
In the middle of the night, it was a scary sight.
In the morning, everybody was mourning.
The trees were down, in a ruined town.
There was no light, so we couldn't see a sight.
We had a visit from CP&L, and they said it will soon be
very well.
At the end, we all made a friend...

The Puzzle
by: Megan
A perfect jigsaw,
every piece in place,
a perfect puzzle.
The rain pours down in sheets,
wind tears around the trees,
the power flickers and dies.
A perfect jigsaw,
every piece in place,
a perfect puzzle.
Leaves whirl in tornadoes of color,
finally settling to a quiet hush on the forest floor.
The perfect jigsaw,
dumped to the ground by a careless toddler.
Nothing is in place.
The sun rises silently,
in a glorious display,
mocking the disaster below.
The puzzle is in pieces.
A beautiful day.
The puzzle is in pieces.
The community unites.
Rebuild the puzzle.
