World Disaster Reduction Day

FEMA has developed lecture materials, suggested classroom exercises and sources of more information in support of World Disaster Reduction Day, which is celebrated this year on October 14 both in this country and around the globe.

The intent of the special day is to draw awareness to the high cost of disasters and to offer information on how we can reduce the risk and to protect ourselves and our property. Children play a key role in this awareness for not only are they affected by disasters themselves, but they can serve as conduits of information to whole families. We hope you will find the information useful.

Much of this information can be found on the FEMA for Kids site, but some of it is new or specially tailored for World Disaster Reduction Day. Please feel free to send us an E-mail and let us know how you used the materials. We're also interested in your input for future disaster curriculum and activities.
