Pittsburgh, Pa., July 6, 2009 -- Firefighter Melanie Smail (Loughlin) has her vital signs checked by researcher Steve Reis after she participated in a 20-minute controlled firefighting exercise. The data collected are being evaluated as part of a study on the effectiveness of cooling techniques on firefighters' health and safety, which is being led by Dr. Dave Hostetler, University of Pittsburgh Department of Emergency Medicine. The study was funded by a FEMA Fire Preventioin and Safety Research and Development Grant, which is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. - Location: Pittsburgh, PA
